1) Invite to National PTA Event in New Orleans!
National PTA is inviting state and local PTA leaders to the Meta-hosted “Screen Smart” event in New Orleans, LA on October 24, 2024. This is offered in only a few other states across the US, so it's a big deal for Louisiana to host one. National PTA President Yvonne Johnson will be a panelist at this event, along with a couple of National PTA staff. Join small-group workshops featuring our Screen Smart conversation cards talk through different scenarios that might arise between teens and parents on social media, and how to use certain tools to shape your family's experience online.
Louisiana PTA can have 10 people attend and has funds to reimburse travel expenses. If you would like to attend or get more information, please contact Beth Maillho ASAP at President@LouisianaPTA.org.

2) St. Tammany PTAs: Get Your Red Ribbon Week Materials NOW
LAPTA partners with the Seymore D'Fair Foundation to promote Red Ribbon Week. Their theme for the year, “The Leader in Me is Better Drug-Free!" resonates with the essence of self-worth, the importance of individual choices, and the value of a drug-free life. It's a compelling call to action, prompting students to recognize their inherent worth and the myriad opportunities that come with a drug-free existence.
They have BESE-approved classroom materials for teachers (See Daily Modules). for elementary and middle school students. They are also selling anti-drug flags, yard signs, and more. Email Dara Johnson at dara.j@seymoresfoundation.org to purchase items.
This program will be available statewide next year. They are doing a pilot program in Mandeville which is called, "Wrap St. Tammany in Red" which focuses on getting the entire community involved with Red Ribbon Week and continues throughout the year.
