Resources for PTAs
LAPTA is busy compiling free resources and other great organizational tools to help run a PTA. Please keep checking back for more. We'd also love to include your tips, tricks, apps, and more! Email President@LouisianaPTA.org with any suggestions!
Start by creating accounts with Tech Soup and Powered by Percent. They offer nonprofits donations and discounts on software, hardware, and services from major providers. These two organizations are used by many companies (not all) to verify your nonprofit status. Complete the verification through one or both several days before trying to apply to Google for Nonprofits, for example. It will delay the process if you do not have a verified account first. Also, you need to use the name for the PTA that is listed on your tax filing. This might be "PTA Louisiana Congress" with a d/b/a/ (doing business as) name with your actual Local PTA name. This was the old way of chartering PTAs that put units under the Louisiana PTA tax umbrella. It's confusing, we know, and might add time to getting your account established. To update your name with the IRS, see this Canva template. LAPTA wants everyone to update to their actual name, please.
