Joseph Francis Seeley Volunteer of the Year Award
Apply by March 31

The volunteers across Louisiana are truly the heart of the association. Recognize and thank that special person who goes above and beyond for all children, the one who acts as a tireless advocate for children’s education, health, and well-being by honoring them with a Volunteer of the Year Award. This award recognizes one PTA volunteer who made a positive impact on the school and its children. This special person does not need to be the person who logs the most volunteer hours or is a PTA Executive Board member. Letters of recommendation are not required but will be accepted and considered if submitted. Recognize the very best! Think of the people the PTA might like to honor with a Volunteer of the Year Award, people who care about children and have spent their lives caring about and devoted to the service of children and youth. LAPTA will announce the one winner for the year by April 14.

Who was Joseph F. Seeley?

LAPTA's volunteer recognition award was established in 2023 to honor the memory of Joseph Francis Seeley, a consummate volunteer. Whether leading from the front or quietly working behind the scenes, he made a difference. Joseph's life before PTA was diverse and would not lead one to think "PTA volunteer in the making". After 21 years of active service, Joseph retired as a Chief Petty Officer of the United States Navy.  Following Chief Petty Officer Seeley's retirement, he became the Naval JROTC instructor at Pearl River High School here in Louisiana. It was this duty position that led to his long-term relationship with the Louisiana Parent Teacher Association. Joseph worked with students, families, and school communities throughout Pearl River; St. Tammany Parish; and Louisiana as a local unit member and president; and as District and State PTA Officer. Joseph also supported National PTA on the ground at national conventions over the years by volunteering his time and talents to providing logistical support to many of those events. Louisiana PTA was proud to award him the Louisiana PTA Life Service Award for his exceptional service to our association. His enthusiasm and dedication to all he served never waned. Joseph served as a compelling force in bringing awareness to the power of volunteering. Pictured with Joseph is his wife, Peggy Seeley, who also served as an exemplary PTA volunteer in both the St. Tammany District PTA and the LAPTA Board of Directors.
